CWB Welder: Structural
Calfrac Well Services
Structural, pipe, fabrication, B-pressure. Every job shows real hourly pay and travel pay, and your CWB tickets are verified once, recognized everywhere.
Welders join metal components using various processes including SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), and FCAW. The Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) administers ticket testing for structural welders and pressure vessels under CSA W47.1 and similar standards.
Demand for welders is surging across Canada, driven by infrastructure investment, energy sector activity, manufacturing reshoring, and shipbuilding contracts. B-pressure welders command significant pay premiums, with experienced pipe welders earning $50-65/hr or more.
Welders can enter through formal apprenticeship (typically 3 years, 5,400 hours) or by completing welding college programs and passing CWB testing. Specialization in structural, pipe, B-pressure, or exotic materials significantly increases earning potential.
Career paths include shop fabrication, field welding, oil and gas pipeline, shipbuilding, nuclear and power generation, and welding inspection (CWI / CWB Inspector). Many experienced welders eventually move into supervisory roles, inspection, or open their own fabrication shops.
