Why pay ranges can't spread more than 40%
How WrkCrew's pay range rules prevent misleading job postings.
A pay range that spans too wide is just as misleading as no range at all.
If a job says "$25-$65/hr," that tells you almost nothing about what you'll actually be paid. WrkCrew limits pay range spreads to 40% of the midpoint, so a range like $40-$56/hr is fine, but $25-$65/hr would be rejected.
How we calculate it:
Spread = (Max − Min) / ((Max + Min) / 2) × 100
If spread > 40%, the posting is blocked and the employer is asked to tighten the range.
This rule protects workers from bait-and-switch postings where the advertised high end of the range is never actually paid.
Employers who consistently post unrealistic ranges will have their accounts reviewed.
